The Los Angeles Chargers and wide receiver Keenan Allen agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth more than $80 million, Allen's agents told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network on Saturday.

The deal makes Allen the NFL's second-highest-paid wide receiver behind Julio Jones, who earns $22 million annually.

Mood! LFG!

Want to thank the organization..Tom Telesco especially for giving me a opportunity! Super juiced about this. CHARGER FANS WE LOCKED IN FOR ANOTHER ROUND, FOREVER A CHARGER! https://t.co/pGdquUdUtl

Allen was set to be one of the biggest free agents after the 2020 season. But with the Chargers investing the sixth overall pick in quarterback Justin Herbert, the AFC West club retaining its top receiving weapon for the foreseeable future was vital.

The 28-year-old produced career highs in catches (104) and receiving yards (1,199) last season. He also caught six touchdown passes, tied for the second-most of his career.

The Chargers were likely comfortable extending Allen after he seemingly put early-career injury woes behind him.

Allen missed half of the 2015 season and nearly all of the following campaign, but the wideout has been sidelined for only three games over the last three years.

L.A. has spent big to lock in its core this offseason as the team enters the post-Philip Rivers era. In addition to extending Allen, the Chargers made pass-rusher Joey Bosa one of the league's best-paid defensive players.
