Does Linux have any support for user space created framebuffers ?

I notice that fbtft seems to be missing on newer kernels.

If the Linux kernel allowed creation of framebuffers from user space then a user space process with similar functionality could be written.

I don't keep up with Linux development, do modern Kernels have any facility to create a framebuffer device on the fly ?

Thanks,
