Tight end George Kittle isn't expected to practice this week due to a knee injury, but the San Francisco 49ers still hope he'll play against the New York Jets in Week 2, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

"Kittle is one guy (who) if he feels ready to go and the doctors say he's good to go, he'll play," head coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday, according to John Dickinson of 95.7 The Game.

Shanahan added that Kittle "fully expects" to be active Sunday, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.

The two-time Pro Bowler suffered a hyperextended left knee during the second quarter against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. He wasn't ruled out of the game, but Kittle didn't register a second-half catch.

The 26-year-old racked up four grabs for 44 yards during the 49ers' 24-20 season-opening loss.

Kittle became the highest-paid tight end ever this offseason, signing a five-year extension worth $75 million. He also set the single-season receiving yards record at the position in 2018 (1,377) and has amassed at least 80 catches, 1,000 yards, and five touchdowns in each of the last two campaigns.
