AMD APUs Compatibility
by upnort from LinuxQuestions.org on (#588T0)
I am interested in reading compatibility observations from Debian users who are using AMD APUs (built-in GPUs).
Poking around the web indicates the Debian 10 4.19 kernel should pose no problems for AMD 2200G/2400G. More poking indicates at least the 5.4 kernel from backports is needed for 3200G/3400G but possibly better to use 5.7.
Am I correct?
Thanks!
Possibly Useless Background
At work the owner wants to start replacing (really old) workstations. The workstations currently run Debian 10.
Stability is an absolute criterion because one of the workstations crashes a few times daily (nothing I've tried resolves the problem). I am looking at AMD APUs with built-in GPUs, but I will live with Intel CPUs and GPUs as long as the system is stable and doesn't crash.
No Nvidia GPUs. Not open for discussion.
I prefer not to go with anything bleeding edge. My Linux experience is choose hardware at least one year old. These are office workstations. No need for discrete GPU cards. On-board graphics will be fine. Pragmatically, any new workstation will perform leaps and bounds beyond the old clunkers still being used.
