Vikings lose Barr to season-ending pectoral tear
Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr will miss the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle, head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters Monday.
Barr suffered the injury in Week 2 when the Vikings lost to the Indianapolis Colts, which marked their second straight defeat to begin the campaign.
"Anthony was our first draft pick that we had when we came here and integral part of our defense," said Zimmer, who selected the UCLA product ninth overall in 2014. " ... It's tearing him up inside that he won't be able to play."
Barr contributed six tackles across two appearances in 2020. The Vikings' typically strong defense has allowed 71 points over two games this season, more than every team except the Atlanta Falcons.
The 28-year-old inked a five-year, $67.5-million contract with the Vikings in March 2019. He nearly signed with the New York Jets that offseason, but Barr withdrew from a verbal agreement to re-sign with Minnesota.
