It might be 3 weeks after the event, but I've only today found out that booting the RPi4 from a USB storage device is now very possible. This is great news for me.

The Raspberry Pi 4 eeprom needs re-programming, which is a very simple process. Just download the latest bootcode update - write the contents to a microSD card - boot the RPi4 with it - wait until the green LED flashes on/off rapidly and constantly - power off.

I've tested with a 16GB USB stick running the Slackware ARM installer and it works like a charm. Next I'll be connecting a SSD and playing around with that. I know from previous experience that compiling on a USB3 connected SSD is ~10-25% quicker than using my fastest microSD cards on the RPi4.latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=FNU0T4Pqk30:lcchl_Fosb8:F7zBnMy latest?i=FNU0T4Pqk30:lcchl_Fosb8:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=FNU0T4Pqk30:lcchl_Fosb8:gIN9vFwFNU0T4Pqk30
