Report: Rivera met with Haskins to stress play must improve

Ron Rivera needs more from Dwayne Haskins if the young quarterback is to remain the Washington Football Team's starter.

The head coach met with his struggling signal-caller this week to stress the importance of improving his performance, sources told JP Finlay of NBC Washington.

Offensive coaches reportedly also sat down with Haskins to highlight his issues following the team's Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Haskins threw three interceptions and recorded his third straight game with a completion percentage below 58% in the 34-20 defeat.

Haskins - who apparently impressed the Washington coaching staff with his offseason improvement - has thrown for 625 yards and four touchdowns against three picks for a passer rating of 75.7 through three games.

While Finlay's sources described the meetings as "quite normal," the message was reportedly clear: The 2019 first-round pick must play better.

Washington's other options at quarterback include former starter Alex Smith, who made a miraculous recovery from a life-threatening leg injury to make the roster this season, and Kyle Allen, who started for Rivera with the Carolina Panthers last season.

Despite losing two games in a row, Washington is tied atop the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys at 1-2.
