Best Distro for ? Dell XPS 8000

My son gave me his old Dell XPS 8000 with Win Sys7 pro 32. 8 processors, 8 Gig ram but only 2.99 gig available. I want to install dual boot to a Linux 64 current LTS but must keep 32 applix available. I currently use Mint 18.2 on another machine. I tried Ubuntu Studio 18.2 but got a failed partial install ?? What would be my best strategy for migration ??
