49ers' Garoppolo to start vs. Dolphins
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, the team announced Friday.
Garoppolo, 28, has missed the team's past two contests after suffering a high ankle sprain against the New York Jets in Week 2. The quarterback returned to practice Wednesday.
"He did a good job," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Garoppolo's efforts in practice this week, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "Each day it got better, never felt too sore the next day, so we needed to hear that today and see him out there today and we feel good to go and he'll be starting Sunday."
The quarterback said his ankle was "feeling really good," according to The Athletic's David Lombardi.
Nick Mullens filled in during Garoppolo's absence, leading the 49ers to a 1-1 record. San Francisco benched Mullens in favor of C.J. Beathard late in its Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. Beathard will serve as Garoppolo's backup Sunday.
Garoppolo has passed for 390 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions through two games in his seventh NFL season.
