October Current, Ktown and Pam Login Problems

Greetings
This is very likely just some stupidity on my part but I've been working at this for three days to no avail. I installed first an upgrade from June Current and then a fresh install both with October Current. The upgrade started with a nicely working Ktown Plasma5 and the fresh install never had KDE4 and got the latest KTown after everything worked.
In both cases after installing KTown, and removing ConsoleKit, I found I could launch Plasma with "startx" and I could run every other WM/DE from "sddm" but Plasma, even the Failsafe version, will not get to Desktop from sddm.
It will display the KDE login progression screen but then drop out of X and back to Runlevel 3 where I will see 2 errors the deal breaker apparently being

I did see a page by Alien Bob for "ktown on pam-ified current" but that page is over a year old and I don't think it still applies. Nothing I saw seemed appropriate.
What am I tripping over but still missing?
