how can I change color in gimp 2.8

I only had a bit of experience in this a long time ago and I forgot everything about it. Posts on the Internet suggest to select:
Code:Color --> Map --> Color ExchangeBut "Color Exchange" is not clickable, I suspect I need to change another setting - it is a .gif image.
What I try to do: I have a picture of a blue sky with light "white" clouds (shades of white and gray) and I'd like to keep the different shades of blue as they are and replace white and gray with different blues.
I only need to do this once and any hint is welcome.
