'Everybody loved him': Family, friends mourn teen killed in Burlington crash
As Halton Regional Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to a deadly crash at the Burlington-Milton border, family members and friends are mourning a life lost far too early.
Von Sotalbo, 19, has been identified by friends and family as the teen killed in the single-vehicle crash that occurred early Oct. 20 in Burlington around 6 a.m. on Derry Road between McNiven Road and Twiss Road (just east of McNiven), close to the Milton border.
Police suspect speed was a factor.
Friends said Sotalbo was an avid car lover.
"Von was really in to cars just like me. That's how we got along so well. Everybody loved him. Von was one of the greatest people I had the pleasure of meeting," said good friend James Stevenson. "He worked so hard to save up for his dream car and just had enough money to buy it. I couldn't wait to see it but now I can't."
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Sotalbo's good friends to help his family cover funeral costs.
"He was a sparkling light to us with a whole life of dreams ahead of him and we miss him dearly," Ottavia Frost wrote in the post.
Stevenson said the Sotalbo family is "still in shock" and have yet to plan the funeral.
