Teen clinging to life after collision involving tractor trailer
Police say a 19-year-old was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries Friday afternoon following a two vehicle crash in Haldimand County.
In a release Saturday, Const. Rod LeClair with Haldimand County OPP said first responders were called to the intersection of Haldimand Road 9 and River Road in York around 4:37 p.m. Friday for a report of a two vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a sedan.
Paramedics transported the 19-year-old driver of the sedan to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in the crash, said LeClair.
According to one witness, the tractor trailer was travelling west bound on Haldimand Road 9 and the sedan was travelling south bound on River Road when the sedan turned left onto Haldimand Road 9 and was struck by the tractor trailer," said LeClair.
As a result of the collision, a utility pole was also sheared off, causing charged electrical wires to fall onto the roadway, he added. A section of Haldimand Road 9 was closed for around five hours while responders were on scene.
The collision is under investigation by the OPP's Technical Collision Investigator.
