Executable programs don't work in Mint
by MikeFinch from LinuxQuestions.org on (#59KZC)
I will attempt to make this as brief as possible > I have used Mageia (Mandriva etc) for years. To create a desktop icon for one of my executable programs, all I have to do is drag it to the desktop and say "Link.." to create an icon! Everything runs; i.e. data (.dat) files and a .txt file all in the same folder and also an html file in an associated subfolder.
Then we come to Mint, where it seems well nigh impossible to do this. WHY???
My opening starting menu works but simultaneously an error dialog appears (cannot run the html file). When I select and enter the main window I'm told that a .txt file cannot be found (it is in the folder!). I have to abort or "risk data corruption".
Again : why does this happen in Mint when it is a breeze with Mageia?
I have tried all of the so-called solutions but nothing works.
Give me Mageia any day! Windows 10 runs the .exe versions without any problems.
PS : I program and compile in the Lazarus Pascal IDE but presumably that is not important.
