Hamilton hits record high with new COVID-19 cases in one day
Hamilton is reporting the highest number of COVID cases ever recorded in a single day.
At a general issues committee meeting Wednesday morning, Dr. Elizabeth Richardson, Hamilton's medical officer of health, said the city is reporting 68 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday. Hamilton had 43 new cases Monday and just two on Tuesday.
Later a spokesperson clarified that there are 65 cases being reported Wednesday.
Richardson said there was a bit of a challenge" over the last few days regarding data, but did not elaborate on what the challenges were.
Looking at this week's numbers as a whole, Hamilton is sitting at cases in the high 30s each day, she said.
Hamilton's updated daily number updates are based off the case count from the previous day as of 3 p.m., meaning the 65 number is actually from Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Yesterday, the city had a total of 1,871 COVID cases, with 173 active cases and 1,649 cases - or 88 per cent of all cases - considered resolved.
Previously, the highest number of cases reported in a single day was tied to the outbreak at the Rosslyn Retirement Residence, with 61 cases reported on May 15.
