Replace netapplet with network manager in PCLinuxOS

I have been using PCLinuxOS for a while and I am liking it. However, I am not able to setup the VPN with openvpn protocol with their net-applet, which is supplied with PCLinuxOS for managing network connections.
Unfortunately, the registration option for PCLinuxOS forums is disabled and I am not signup.
Does anyone know how to replace the net-applet with Network Manager. I see the Network Manager in their software center, but it says it is KDE network manager. I am not sure if that is the one I need.
