Hamilton man charged with arson after allegedly lighting ex-girlfriend’s apartment door on fire
Hamilton police have charged a 44-year-old man after a suspected arson at a lower-city apartment building Friday afternoon.
Police say the suspect attended his ex-girlfriend's apartment at 150 Sandford Ave. N. between Barton Street East and Cannon Street East at around 3 p.m. on Nov. 6.
The suspect poured gasoline outside the door and lit it on fire" before fleeing the building, police say.
Police say there was scorching and soot reaching six feet in height on the exterior surface of the door.
A woman and a 9-year-old, both uninjured, were inside the apartment unit at the time of the domestic arson," police say.
The suspect was arrested Saturday at around 10:30 a.m., and is charged with arson and disregard for human life.
