Safely removing external HDD in Slackware does not turn off the device

I noticed that safely removing HDD in Slackware does not turn the device off. I receive the message that the device can be safely removed, but the light is still on, the disks are still spinning (although it should have been idle already, before the safe removal) and I can hear a "scream" every time I unplug the device from the USB port.

Usually, on other systems I have (Ubuntu, for example), the device is unmounted and turned off (the disks stop spinning and the light is off), but not with Slackware (--current 64). It's not a device-specific problem, as similar is happening with my memory stick (the light stays on until the physical removal).

Does anyone experience the same issue? Can you suggest a potential solution? Thanks!latest?d=yIl2AUoC8zA latest?i=jzHvWk7kKWo:EgHghJaTM_w:F7zBnMy latest?i=jzHvWk7kKWo:EgHghJaTM_w:V_sGLiP latest?d=qj6IDK7rITs latest?i=jzHvWk7kKWo:EgHghJaTM_w:gIN9vFwjzHvWk7kKWo
