Cardinals' Peterson: NFL needs 'more refs on the field'

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson isn't happy with how NFL referees are officiating games this season.

"What I'm proposing to the league: We need more refs on the field to officiate the game if the back judge can't see the receivers, so now the (defensive back) is at a disadvantage," Peterson told reporters Thursday, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. "I almost think he's not refereeing the game properly. He's just not seeing the whole game, so we need more eyes to help these guys."

Peterson's criticism stems from a pass-interference call against him during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins.

The eight-time Pro Bowler allowed a 17-yard catch to wide receiver DeVante Parker on the play despite the penalty call, which was declined by the Dolphins.

"I was like, 'I didn't touch him. Like, what do you mean I got a pass interference?'" Peterson said of the play. "He said, 'Well, from my angle, it looked like you was engaged with him.' I'm like, 'What do you mean from your angle? You can't even see the receiver because you're right behind me.'"

That was the only pass-interference penalty called against Peterson this season so far. Overall, the 30-year-old has been flagged five times in 2020, including four calls for holding.

"We need more eyes on the field, Mr. Goodell, to get these games officiated better, because receivers get away with so much. They push off every route," he said.
