Kubuntu crashes once a month
by vmelkon from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5ABHP)
Hello,
I have been using Kubuntu 18.04 LTS for 10 months or so.
Kubuntu completely locks up when I am not using it.
Sometimes, the monitor goes to sleep (Which is normal) and I can make it come back by moving the mouse or pressing keyboard keys.
No response to mouse movements, no response to Num Lock, Escape, alt-tab, Ctrl-Esc, Alt-ctrl-del, alt-ctrl-F1, alt-ctrl-F2.
I am forced to press reset.
On the same PC, Windows 7 64 bit runs fine.
I have tried memtest for hours. All is fine.
HARDWARE:
motherboard = MSI B350 TOMAHAWK
CPU = Ryzen 1800X 3.6 GHz
RAM = DDR4, 24 GB
GPU = nVidia GTX 980 4 GB
I am using the nVidia driver. Is that the problem?
I was using Kubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, 18.04.4 LTS, 18.04.5 LTS and now, Kubuntu 20.10.
I have had Kubuntu 20.10 for 5 days and today, the PC would not send a signal to the screen.
