The Miami Dolphins have released running back Jordan Howard, head coach Brian Flores announced Monday, according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post.

Flores described the move as a mutual parting, Schad notes.

Howard recorded 33 rushing yards and four touchdowns over five games with the Dolphins.

The 26-year-old signed a two-year contract worth up to $10 million this past offseason.

The Indiana product was expected to be more of a factor in Miami's run game this season. Instead, Matt Breida, Myles Gaskin, and Salvon Ahmed have leaped over Howard on the depth chart.

Howard was a fifth-round selection of the Chicago Bears in the 2016 NFL Draft. He racked up 3,370 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground during three seasons in the Windy City.
