Hotkeys no longer working in terminal based programs (mplayer, cmus, rtorrent etc.) and dmenu tab completion not working
by burning from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5AGN3)
Accidentally filled up my /home partition yesterday and ever since none of the dedicated hotkeys work during terminal based programs such as cmus or rtorrent. I've since deleted some "fluff files" freeing up a few Gb of space but the problem persists.
In mplayer, the arrowkeys no longer seek, space no longer pauses, q no longer quits and f no longer fullscreens. Same problem in cmus except the command line works in cmus, I can type out full commands but I can't change library views using the numkeys and can't pause with the tap of the c key. Anyway, you get the idea.
I don't think it's a keyboard issue as the hotkeys in firefox work just fine, ctrl+t opens new tabs and ctrl+w closes them. As far as I can tell the problem seems to be isolated only to terminal based programs. I'm using the st terminal emulator and can use the copy and paste/tab completion there just fine, same in the standard non-X terminals too. But tab completion in dmenu is no longer working and the predictive options for programs to choose from based on a few characters entered no longer displays either. I have to specify the full program name manually or it won't work. Could this be some form of config issue? I've been scratching my head with on this for about a day now and I have no idea what the root case could be.
