49ers claim McKinley off waivers
The San Francisco 49ers claimed defensive end Takk McKinley off waivers, the team announced Wednesday.
The Cincinnati Bengals waived McKinley on Tuesday following a failed physical just six days after Cincinnati claimed the former first-rounder.
McKinley was previously released by the Atlanta Falcons midway through his fourth season with the club. The pass-rusher had voiced his displeasure with the Falcons' failure to trade him at this year's deadline.
The 25-year-old has racked up just eight tackles and one sack through four games in 2020. McKinley's amassed 17.5 career sacks.
The 49ers' pass-rushing unit took big hits earlier this year after Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas suffered season-ending injuries. Additionally, San Francisco has Dee Ford and Ezekiel Ansah on injured reserve and recently placed Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw on the COVID-19 reserve list.
Defensive lineman Kerry Hyder currently leads the team with 5.5 sacks.
