How is this resource of search engine knowledge still active?!

Hello fellows!
I just found the solution to a problem on an old Slackware thread in here. Instantly registered to give public kudos. He has his last.fm profile in his signature. After remembering that there's something like necrophilanthropy, I went to the sub-forum to see, whether the last post is from 2009 or even later, so I might solve a problem for another lost soul. Turns out I needed to scroll to find something older than today!
How is this still active? You can't login via Facebook, I would have bet that most people living today and use some form of computer have never seen such a registration form, most questions are answered somewhere, people are still producing tutorials for everything, even though there already exist many identical ones, sometimes even surpassing the quality..
Is there some popular mobile app that lets you browse forums from a preloaded list and use a central account to interact with them, and adds achievements?
