WINE, battle.net, and current
by garpu from LinuxQuestions.org on (#5BDGG)
I'm a bit frustrated, and this is a a bit like the house that jack built. I also realize this is totally a first-world problem.
Battle.net and WINE worked fine this morning. I come back around 5 (after their maintenance and after I'd updated Slackware-current for December 8, including the multilib updates that happened today. Battle.net is a 32-bit program.)
Battle.net starts, but the window just hangs once it's in the notification area.
This is the error I get with Alien Bob's wine (5.18 staging), mine (5.20-staging) and a lutris build (5.7-9)
Code:0124:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 7BC693A0 "../dlls/ntdll/loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 0124, blocked by 00fc, retrying (60 sec)To see if something were messed up, I noticed I could load World of Warcraft without Battle.net. Thinking it was a 32-bit program problem, I tried Guild Wars 1. (No problems.)
Battle.net works fine in proton (5.13-3)
Any ideas what changed in the December 8 update that could've broken battle.net? It's literally the only WINE program that isn't working.
Is this a WINE bug, not a slackware-current-caused breakage?
Unrelated, I tried to compile WINE (5.20-staging) against the new system libraries, thinking that WINE needed to be rebuilt, but there seems to be an issue with Alien BoB's mingw. I'm going to try building mingw tomorrow.
ETA: I did try with a completely clean wineprefix. Twice.
