Pedestrian was hit at James and Cannon after vehicle in crash mounted curb
A 34-year-old Smithville woman is in stable condition, but with life-threatening injuries, after being hit when one of several vehicles involved in a crash mounted the curb late Wednesday morning.
Hamilton police say the three-vehicle crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. Dec. 9 at Cannon Street East and James Street North.
The initial collision happened in the intersection between a westbound Hyundai SUV and a southbound GMC Sierra, police said.
The force of the collision sent the GMC onto the sidewalk, where the 34-year-old pedestrian had been waiting to cross the road. The truck came to a stop against a third vehicle, a Volkswagen Touareg, just south of the intersection.
She was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. On Wednesday, she was listed as critical, but by Thursday morning, police said she was stable.
Both the driver of the Hyundai, a 56-year-old Hamilton man, and the driver of the GMC, a 34-year-old Niagara Falls woman, were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The collision reconstruction unit continues to investigate.
Detectives say driver impairment was not a factor, but they continue to assess all other possible contributing factors, including which vehicle had the right of way.
