Halton Regional Police say a 46-year-old hockey mom has been nabbed for drinking and driving in Oakville.

The incident occurred this evening (Dec. 9) around 7:40 p.m. during a RIDE spotcheck at the intersection of Trafalgar and Cornwall roads.

Const. Mark Taraso told Inside Halton the driver had two kids onboard and they were "on their way to the rink," in full gear wearing everything but their skates and helmets.

The driver blew close to the legal limit of alcohol allowed in the system - meaning she had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of between 0.05 and 0.08 - resulting in a three-day driver's licence suspension. A relief driver had to come to the scene to drive the woman's Mercedes SUV, police said.

Throughout Canada, the maximum legal BAC for fully licensed drivers is to be under 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, or 0.08. Driving with a BAC of 0.08 or over is a criminal offence.

In Ontario, "you will also face serious consequences if your BAC is between 0.05 and 0.08. This is commonly referred to as the 'warn range,'" according to the Ministry of Transportation.
