WINE, the confusing software

I have Kubuntu 18.04 64 bit

I had downloaded WINE from Discover and it was working fine running one of my 32 bit Windows apps and a 64 bit Windows app.
Then, I wanted to run another 64 bit Windows app and it failed.

I checked
winehq.org
It says that the current version of WINE can run it. Version 6.0-rc3
I had version 3.0.
Man, that is ancient!
I get prompted for updates and I apply them but they never update WINE.
The same thing has happened with other software. I don't see the point in repositories.

I uninstalled WINE.

To install Version 6.0-rc3, I followed the instructions at
https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu

and it worked.
So, my 32 bit program works.
Both my 64 bit programs don't work.

It says:
0024:err:module:process_init L"Z:\\home\\john\\Temporary\\Cinebench\\R15\\CINEBENCHWindows64Bit.exe" 64-bit application not supported in 32-bit prefix

It looks like it installed a 32 bit version of WINE while I have a 64 bit Kubuntu.
