[SOLVED] Always a black screen before Grub loads

I have been having a large problem trying to get grub to load.
I have updated the system to the latest BIOS, have installed grub in EFI mode, and tried the removable disk grub workaround.
But there is always a black screen unless I manually load from the "boot override" section of the BIOS.
It used to be able to load grub before I formatted the disk.
Is there anything else I can try?
