The San Francisco 49ers will be down two more offensive players to end their 2020 campaign.

Starting running back Raheem Mostert will be placed on injured reserve after suffering his second high-ankle sprain this year, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Quarterback Nick Mullens sustained a significant ligament injury to his throwing elbow during Sunday's loss to the Dallas Cowboys that requires surgery, according to NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco.

Mullens' injury means C.J. Beathard will likely start in Week 16. The 49ers opened the 21-day practice window for Jimmy Garoppolo on Tuesday, though he won't see game action to end the season, per Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury.

San Francisco has been one of the league's most injury-riddled squads in 2020. Key players who missed extended time, in addition to Garoppolo and Mostert, include Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, Richard Sherman, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle.

Mullens started eight games for the 49ers this year and saw action in two others. He completed 64.7% of his passes for 2,437 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The reigning conference champions currently sit last in the NFC West at 5-9 with remaining games against the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
