Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Josh Gordon will not be allowed to play or practice indefinitely after suffering a setback in his battle with substance abuse, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Gordon was activated to Seahawks' main roster Monday, but Tuesday's NFL transaction list showed the receiver returned to the exempt list, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

The wideout can still attend team meetings and individual workouts.

Gordon had been serving an indefinite ban for violating the league's policy on substance abuse and performance-enhancing drugs. He has missed two full seasons and portions of others due to suspensions.

David Moore will likely continue to serve as the team's third receiving option behind Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.

The 29-year-old put up 426 yards last season while splitting time between the Seahawks and New England Patriots.
