Hamilton police trying to identify suspect involved in failed dognapping
Hamilton police are trying to identify a man allegedly involved in an attempted dognapping on the city's Beach Strip Monday night.
Police say on Monday, Dec. 21 around 9 p.m., a woman was walking her dogs in the area of Beach Boulevard and North Park Avenue when she was approached by a man she didn't know.
The suspect tried to talk to the woman, indicating he wanted her dogs, police say. The woman said no to the suspect, who then allegedly assaulted her while attempting to grab her dogs.
The suspect was unsuccessful in taking the dogs as a result of the resistance from the victim," and he fled. Police say the woman suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Police are reminding the public to be aware of their surroundings at all times. If walking alone at night, residents should try to stay in well-lit areas and if possible, walk with another person.
Police describe the suspect as a white man between the ages of 30 and 40. Police said he was wearing a baseball cap and a dark coloured jacket.
Police are asking residents in the area to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Ben Thibodeau at 905-546-2907.
To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or crimestoppershamilton.com.
