Man arrested in Calgary for Hamilton armed robbery
Hamilton police have charged a man they allege robbed a variety store at gunpoint in mid-October.
The lone male suspect entered the Hasty Market at 387 Barton St. E. around 9:25 p.m. Oct. 19, police said. He had a black handgun and demanded cash from a store clerk.
The suspect was handed an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot, heading east on Barton. There were no injuries.
In the days following the robbery, police requested the public's assistance in identifying the suspect, releasing a photo of him at the counter.
In a release Thursday, police say they were able to identify the male.
On Dec. 14, a Canada-Wide warrant was issued for the 33 year-old man. With the help of the Calgary Police Service, he was located and arrested on Dec. 18, and was returned to Hamilton and appeared in court on Dec. 22. He has been charged with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm and disguise with intent.
