Pederson 'fully confident' of return in 2021

The Philadelphia Eagles have been eliminated from playoff contention after losing 37-17 to the division rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the final embarrassment in a hugely disappointing season for Doug Pederson's team.

But despite the failures of this campaign, the head coach undoubtedly believes Philadelphia will retain his services for next year.

"I feel fully confident to be the head coach of the Eagles in 2021," said Pederson in an appearance Monday on SportsRadio 94WIP. "The thing I'm most proud of this football team, we have been in the postseason three of the last five years since I've been here and that's pretty good. We have won a championship here.

"We have gone through a season where a lot of our veteran guys are not playing due to injury. We are playing with a lot of young players. There is always going to be evaluation in the offseason and my job is evaluated as well. I fully expected to be the coach next season and I welcome the opportunity to get things right, get things fixed, and take this team into next season."

After going 7-9 and missing the playoffs in his first season, Pederson led the Eagles to the postseason in each of the last three seasons and won Super Bowl LII in 2017, ending the team's championship drought.

Pederson remains confident in his position, but there has been widespread speculation Philadelphia could look to make significant changes this offseason to get the franchise back on track.

Carson Wentz's future with the team is in doubt following his benching in favor of Jalen Hurts. The rookie quarterback impressed in his three-game stint under center and Wentz will reportedly seek a trade if the Eagles move forward with the Hurts as their starter.

While Pederson has come under fire for his team's inconsistent performances, general manager Howie Roseman has also been criticized for his recent draft picks and questionable cap management.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will face a crucial offseason having to decide whether to break up a regime that, before this season, had appeared set in place for years to come.
