Hamilton sees record high number of active cases for sixth day in a row
Hamilton is reporting 114 new cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths.
The Monday update comes as the number of active cases in the city continues to surge, reaching 1,250 cases. It was a record high for the sixth day in a row. On Sunday, there were 1,226 active cases.
The new four deaths all involve people who lived at Grace Villa, a long-term care home on the Mountain hit hard by COVID. Three of the deaths were people in their 80s and one was in their 70s. A total of 36 people have died at Grace Villa. A total of 224 people have been infected; two-thirds are residents and one-third are staff.
A total of 158 Hamiltonians have died with COVID since the pandemic began.
Two new outbreaks were declared Monday: one at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Elementary School on Fletcher Road in Hannon, with two cases in students, and the other at The Village of Wentworth Heights Retirement Home on Upper Wentworth Street, with one case in a staff member.
There are 28 active outbreaks in the city.
A total of 57 people are in hospital with COVID.
