Water rescue attempt in Burlington ends with woman being found dead
A water rescue attempt in Burlington Tuesday afternoon ended tragically.
Halton Regional Police, along with Halton Region Paramedics and Burlington firefighters, responded to the shores of Lake Ontario in Burlington Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 29) after reports of a trapped individual.
Firefighters responded to the scene in the area of Lakeshore Road and White Pines Drive around 1:15 p.m. to try to rescue the individual, a woman, with the help of police and paramedics.
However, police confirmed the individual died.
The person found in that area was deceased," Const. Steve Elms said.
Police aren't saying how the person died.
Fire officials on scene reported the rocky/icy shoreline made the rescue attempt extremely challenging.
Police aren't saying whether this individual is the woman who was reported missing however police have reported that she has been located.
