BYU quarterback Zach Wilson announced Friday he'll forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wilson is projected as a first-round pick next April and is in the running to be the second quarterback off the board following Clemson standout Trevor Lawrence.

"To the greatest fans in the world, thank you for the best three years of my life," Wilson said in a statement. "On our own home turf, or on the road, there was no question that the Blue Wave would be fierce. BYU is a special place. I'm forever blue."

Wilson, 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, is a talented dual-threat passer who can make difficult throws look easy.

The junior enjoyed an excellent final season with the Cougars, completing 73.4% of his passes for 3,699 yards, 33 touchdowns, and three interceptions across 12 games. He was named the Boca Raton Bowl's offensive MVP on Dec. 22 with a dominant outing versus UCF.

Wilson will likely battle Ohio State's Justin Fields and North Dakota State's Trey Lance to be the second quarterback selected in the 2021 draft.
