Report: Eagles' Schwartz won't return in 2021, pondering retirement
The Philadelphia Eagles will need a new defensive coordinator next season.
Jim Schwartz intends to take a year off from coaching, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Schwartz has told others he will consider retirement, Pelissero adds.
The 54-year-old coordinator has commanded Philadelphia's defense since 2016, including during the Eagles' 2017 Super Bowl run.
Philadelphia has twice ranked in the top 10 for yardage during Schwartz's tenure, including a top-five finish in 2017. His unit sunk toward the bottom of the league this season, ranking 21st due to various injuries and poor play.
Schwartz has 28 years of NFL experience after breaking into the league as a personnel scout with the Cleveland Browns in 1993.
The Eagles are set for an offseason of uncertainty with salary-cap issues looming and question marks at head coach, quarterback, and defensive coordinator.
