Report: Jets to part ways with Gase following regular season
The New York Jets are expected to part ways with head coach Adam Gase following Sunday's season finale against the New England Patriots, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Gase will have lasted just two years with the Jets after being hired before the 2019 campaign. The sideline boss owns a 9-22 record in New York.
General manager Joe Douglas will undergo a lengthy search for his club's next coach, according to Rapoport. The list of candidates the executive plans to consider includes Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Baltimore Ravens DC Don Martindale, Tennessee Titans OC Arthur Smith, and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
The Jets could also evaluate Iowa State's Matt Campbell and Michigan's Jim Harbaugh from the college ranks.
Gase has been highly criticized since taking the job two years ago, ultimately failing to develop 2018's third overall pick Sam Darnold. New York ranked last in total offense in each year under its coach.
The 42-year-old likely would've been fired last week if the Jets had lost, Rapoport reports, but Gang Green pulled off a second consecutive upset over the Cleveland Browns.
Douglas and co. hold the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
