Cardinals unable to mount comeback despite Murray's late return, miss playoffs

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray didn't play for most of Sunday's 18-7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams after exiting the game in the first quarter with an ankle injury.

The Cardinals needed a win to clinch a playoff berth.

Murray tried to save Arizona from elimination by returning to the game in the fourth quarter but was unable to mount a comeback.

The 2019 first overall pick finished the night 8 of 11 passing for 87 yards while adding just three yards on the ground.

Chris Streveler replaced Murray for most of the game, completing 11 of 16 passes for 105 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, which was a pick-6 by cornerback Troy Hill.

Streveler joined the Cardinals in the offseason after spending the previous two years with the CFL's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Murray injured his leg late in Week 16 versus the San Francisco 49ers but was able to practice this past week and start against the Rams.

Meanwhile, L.A. entered Week 17 facing its own issues at quarterback, as Jared Goff was ruled out due to a thumb injury and was replaced by John Wolford.
