Marrone took the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game during his first permanent year at the helm in 2017 following a stint as interim head coach to conclude the previous season.

But the 56-year-old posted three straight losing campaigns to end his tenure, including a 1-15 finish this year. He leaves Jacksonville with a 23-43 record.

The Jaguars have seemingly already chosen Marrone's successor. Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer reportedly expects to get the job and has been putting together his staff.

Meyer is a three-time national champion, winning the title with the Florida Gators in 2006 and 2008, and with Ohio State in 2014.

The AFC South team was also eyeing Ryan Day, who took over the Buckeyes from Meyer in 2018, but he reportedly isn't interested in interviewing for NFL vacancies.

Jacksonville owns the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after finishing the year with 15 straight losses. The club will presumably use the selection on Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who's widely expected to declare for the draft soon.
