Saleh gets HC interview requests from Jaguars, Lions, Falcons
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh is among the most sought-after head coaching candidates.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, and Detroit Lions each requested interviews with Saleh, 49ers general manager John Lynch confirmed Monday.
Saleh just completed his fourth season as the Niners' defensive coordinator. His unit ranked second in total defense in 2019 and fifth in 2020. It was also the catalyst for San Francisco's run to the Super Bowl a season ago.
Saleh garnered interest from other teams last coaching cycle, but he ultimately remained with the 49ers. This time around, head coach Kyle Shanahan doesn't expect Saleh to stay.
"I will be very surprised if we don't lose him," Shanahan said Sunday, per Jacob Hutchinson of KNBR. "I don't know what's wrong with people if they don't hire him. I mean, he's as good as you can get."
The 49ers also received a general manager interview request for personnel executive Adam Peters and expect to field another for vice president of player personnel Martin Mayhew.
