Police investigating ‘targeted’ shooting in Upper Stoney Creek
Hamilton police say they are investigating a targeted" shooting in Upper Stoney Creek.
In a tweet Tuesday afternoon, police said they were investigating a shooting incident" in the area of Times Square Boulevard and Upper Mount Albion Road - close to the Eramosa Karst Conservation Area.
Speaking to The Spectator at the scene, Det. Sgt. Ben Thibodeau said a car had been shot at but no one was in it at the time. Officers could be seen inspecting the townhouse the car was parked in front of on Times Square Boulevard.
It was fired in that direction. The car had been hit and we're still trying to determine exactly what the intent was," said Thibodeau. It was targeted, they were targeting the one residence."
Thibodeau said there was no real concern" for the immediate neighbourhood and no injuries had been reported to police. He provided no further details on which home was targeted.
Officers believe the suspects arrived in the area and fled the neighbourhood in a vehicle, but Thibodeau could not provide a description of the vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Laurie Coughlin, whose son lives in the area, said it was overwhelming" to see flashing police cars and yellow tape as she stepped outside to walk her dogs.
Overwhelming to say the least when someone else told me there had been a drive-by shooting ... far too close for comfort," said Coughlin, who was relieved to find out no one had been hurt. It seems stay safe' has several meanings these days."
Police said residents can expect a continued police presence" as they investigate. Pedestrians and motorists have been asked to avoid the area.
