Pedestrian struck and killed on Main Street in central Hamilton
An 80-year-old man has died following a collision on Main Street East near Tisdale Street South Saturday night.
Police say the man was taken to hospital following the collision, just after 6 p.m. Saturday. The man died from his injures Sunday morning, said Det. Wes Wilson of Hamilton Police's Collision Reconstruction Unit.
The collision closed Main Street East at Emerald Street South for over four hours Saturday night.
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, Wilson said. No charges will be laid following the crash, he said, adding speed, alcohol and distraction have all been ruled out.
Police believe the pedestrian was crossing Main Street East without the right of way, Wilson said.
Wilson said police have been in contact with the family of the 80-year-old and they declined to release his name.
This is the second fatal collision in Hamilton this year. On Jan. 2 a 25-year-old was killed in a single-vehicle collision on the Red Hill Valley Parkway.
