Report: Matt Patricia rejoining Patriots, will assist coaching staff
Matt Patricia is returning to the New England Patriots and will assist the coaching staff in numerous roles, a source told The Boston Globe's Jim McBride.
His role with the Patriots will involve evaluating personnel, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Known mostly for his work with defenses, Patricia's versatility has been on display throughout his coaching career. During his first tenure in New England from 2004 to 2017, he served as an assistant offensive line coach, linebackers coach, safeties coach, and defensive coordinator.
Patricia was most recently the head coach of the Detroit Lions. He struggled to make a mark with the franchise, posting a 13-29-1 record before being fired during his third season at the helm.
Evan Rothstein, who held the position of research and analysis/head coach assistant with the Lions, is also slated to join New England's staff, McBride adds.
