Report: Desai becoming Bears' DC, believed to be NFL's 1st coordinator of Indian descent
The Chicago Bears are promoting safeties coach Sean Desai to defensive coordinator, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
It's believed Desai would become the first person of Indian descent to hold the coordinator position in the NFL, Rapoport adds.
Desai has been with the Bears since 2013. He served as a quality control assistant on the defensive side of the ball until 2018 and was promoted to safeties coach in 2019.
Prior to his time in the NFL, Desai spent one year coaching at Boston College. He was also the assistant director of football operations at the University of Miami in 2011, and a defensive and special teams coach at Temple from 2006 to 2010.
The Bears' defense ranked 11th in 2020, and among the top 10 in the three years prior. Defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano retired after the season.
