There may not be anything the Houston Texans can do to keep Deshaun Watson around.

The star quarterback is expected to request a trade from Houston regardless of whom the team hires for its vacant head coaching position in 2021, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Watson is reportedly frustrated with the organization after being left out of their general-manager hiring process. Texans CEO and chairman Cal McNair previously said Watson would be directly involved in the team's search for a new coach.

Houston remains the only team - out of seven that fired its head coaches this season - with a vacant HC position. The Texans dismissed Bill O'Brien during the 2020 regular season and had interim coach Romeo Crennel on the sideline for 12 games.

Houston is reportedly expected to request a second head coaching interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, whose name was suggested by Watson earlier this month.

Watson reportedly views the New York Jets as his top trade destination, followed by the Miami Dolphins.

The 25-year-old has completed 67.8% of his pass attempts while throwing for 4,308 yards and 31 touchdowns against 11 interceptions per 16 games played since entering the NFL in 2017.

The three-time Pro Bowler signed a four-year, $156-million extension in September. His new deal has a no-trade clause, according to Spotrac.
