desktop-integration not installed

Installed OpenOffice on SL and listed in /usr/bin as one of hundreds that is installed; however the system does not recognize it for running my book or even being listed in office apts; believe problem is that the associated "desktop-integration" file was not included in the install, and I can't get to do so. Any suggestions?
