Lions' Campbell: Stafford trade talks are 'pretty hot and heavy'
Trade talks involving Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford are intensifying, head coach Dan Campbell indicated Saturday.
"It's pretty hot and heavy right now," Campbell told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "We've got quite a few offers and so it looks like we've got some trade partners, we're just trying to work out the best scenario and see what's best for us, ultimately."
The Lions and Stafford agreed to part ways after 12 years. Several quarterback-hungry teams have been linked to Stafford in recent days, including the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers.
Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Rams have reportedly emerged as one of Stafford's suitors. The veteran is hoping to land with a contender after making the playoffs just three times over his career in Detroit.
"I mean, we're mindful of trying to give him what he wants as well, but he also knows that, listen, we're going to find the best value for the Detroit Lions and what's best for us," Campbell said. "That's kind of what we're doing."
Stafford will turn 33 on Super Bowl Sunday. He threw for 4,084 yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this past season, eclipsing the 4,000-yard mark for the eighth time in his career.
