[Xubuntu 18.04] Removed pi-hile and now I have a variety of networking issues

I followed the instructions to uninstall pihole but I guess I removed something wrong and now I have no networking.... and the wireless networking icon is not showing at the top... I have went into the CLI and 'turned on' my wireless device BUT I don't seem to be able to connect to my wifi network using
Code:iwconfig wirelessUSBinterface essid networknameand iwlist doesn't seem to exist.... which according to https://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Wireless_Tools it should.....
So I tried to use the wired ethernet and I seem to be unable to 'turn on' the device (enpls8)
I got the device name from running
Code:sudo lshw _C network

Is there a way I can repair things with the Xubuntu live DVD? I've burned a DVD and even mounted the ISO at /media/cdrom but when I go to Software & Updates, it doesn't recognize the DVD (drives is shaky so I expected that) nor the mounted ISO.
Any help is appreciated....
